Position Overview

As a Transport Manager, you will optimise transport operations across the region to ensure efficient stock deployment at the lowest cost while maintaining high customer service levels. 

You will also manage the fleet and transport team to maximise productivity and performance.

Key Responsibilities

1. Strategy Execution

  • Collaborate with the Regional Operations Manager and National Transport Manager to develop and implement transport management frameworks.
  • Work closely with Warehouse Management to deliver integrated supply chain benefits and meet strategic targets.
  • Drive improvements in transport operations to enhance efficiency and achieve operational goals.
  • Implement transport operations and maintenance policies and procedures across the region.

2. Fleet Optimisation

  • Engage in forward planning with cross-functional planning and operations teams.
  • Coordinate with principals to agree on delivery schedules and turnarounds.
  • Build strong relationships with key retailers, wholesalers, and their receiving teams to improve turnaround times.
  • Monitor exception and utilisation reports daily, addressing inefficiencies to optimise fleet performance.
  • Oversee vehicle maintenance programmes to align with company policy and manufacturer standards.
  • Investigate customer complaints and collaborate with government agencies to improve transportation safety procedures.
  • Analyse regional transport costs and implement strategies to increase profitability and improve services.
  • Negotiate contracts with suppliers and ensure contract fulfilment.

3. Risk Management

  • Ensure adherence to vehicle performance and maintenance standards.
  • Comply with laws and regulations governing vehicle safety, fuel emissions, driver hours, and the transportation of food, hazardous goods, and livestock.
  • Investigate and report Injuries on Duty (IODs) to ensure workplace safety.

4. Cost Management

  • Monitor and manage fleet operating and maintenance costs to ensure alignment with industry benchmarks.

5. Team Leadership and Development

  • Monitor team performance, providing regular feedback and coaching to achieve objectives.
  • Lead the team towards strategic goals through clear communication and talent management practices.
  • Address performance issues in line with company policy and legislation.
  • Conduct regular meetings, maintain records, and ensure timely delivery of agreed action plans.

Minimum Requirements

Education

  • Degree or Diploma in Logistics Management.

Experience

  • At least 5 years of experience in a transport or fleet management environment.

Licensing

  • Valid Code EB Driver’s License.

Skills and Competencies

  • Strong strategic planning and organisational skills.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Leadership and team management skills to motivate and develop a high-performing team.
  • Proficiency in compliance with transport regulations and safety standards.
