The Role of a SHE Officer
The SHE Officer is more than just a regulatory figure. In this role, you will champion a safety-first mindset while taking responsibility for managing occupational health, safety, environmental practices, and security protocols.
You will collaborate with stakeholders across departments, from on-site teams to external service providers, to implement and maintain robust safety systems.
Occupational Health and Safety Oversight

Your expertise will be instrumental in conducting risk assessments, managing incident investigations, and developing actionable strategies to minimise hazards.

Training and Awareness
Effective safety systems begin with well-informed employees. Your role will include organising and leading training sessions, presentations, and monthly safety communication initiatives.

Security Management
Industrial security is a critical aspect of this position. You will oversee contract security teams, participate in the Loss Prevention Program, and ensure that property protection measures are implemented effectively. Your supervision will maintain a secure environment for personnel and operations.
Skills and Qualifications You’ll Need
Lactalis is searching for a SHE Officer with both technical expertise and the interpersonal skills required to lead safety initiatives. To qualify for this role, candidates must meet the following criteria:
- Education: A National Diploma in Safety Management is essential.
- Certifications: Completion of relevant training courses such as SAMTRAC, ITIS, SCAT (Incident Investigation), HIRA, HACCP, SHE Representative, First Aid, and Fire Fighting.
- Experience:
- A minimum of three years’ experience in Occupational Health and Safety, Training, and Environmental Management.
- At least three years of security experience within an industrial or manufacturing environment.
- Prior exposure to the FMCG industry is highly advantageous.
- Abilities:
- Strong investigative, auditing, and analytical skills.
- The ability to act independently and make informed decisions.
- Comprehensive understanding of legislation and its practical application.
- Skills:
- Proficiency in negotiation, facilitation, and presentation.
- Exceptional communication skills for engaging with diverse stakeholders.
- Advanced computer literacy in MS Office.
- Additional Requirements:
- Extensive knowledge of plant operations and layouts.
- A valid Code 08 driver’s licence to facilitate travel between plants.
- Strong attention to detail and a proactive attitude.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
As a SHE Officer at Lactalis SA, your daily responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
- Maintaining up-to-date legal documentation for safety compliance.
- Overseeing internal and external SHE training requirements.
- Liaising with stakeholders to address safety concerns in a timely manner.
- Conducting presentations and monthly safety communications to management and staff.
- Ensuring risk assessment documentation is comprehensive and current.
- Enforcing contractor compliance with Construction Regulations.
- Managing induction, safety training, and medical surveillance records.
- Compiling and analysing injury statistics and presenting findings to management.
- Investigating workplace incidents in collaboration with plant managers and recommending corrective actions.
- Conducting internal audits and participating in the Loss Prevention and Property Protection Programs.
- Supervising on-site security personnel and working with the Risk Management Team at head office.
