Supervisor Driver Vacancy



An excellent opportunity is available for a Supervisor Driver to join the eThekwini Municipality's Electricity Unit in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal. 

This permanent role involves managing staff and contractors engaged in the maintenance and construction of electricity distribution networks. 

Reporting to the Superintendent (Electrical), the position requires a proactive leader with strong technical skills, a commitment to workplace safety, and a focus on quality.

The Supervisor Driver will oversee the construction and maintenance of the electricity distribution network and ensure that all electrical equipment is inspected and approved before installation. 

The role involves liaising with private contractors and standby staff to ensure construction and maintenance work meets the required standards. 

Regular on-site inspections will be conducted to monitor project progress and ensure quality workmanship. 

The incumbent will also provide technical advice to staff, contractors, and other stakeholders, while actively promoting and supporting safety initiatives in the workplace.

Other key responsibilities include monitoring and controlling expenditure, operating medium voltage equipment, and ensuring contract specifications are adhered to. 

Additionally, the Supervisor Driver will maintain effective industrial relations, solve problems as they arise, and set clear direction for their team to achieve operational goals.

Applicants must meet the following essential requirements: be a Trade Tested Artisan (Electrician) with a National Technical Certificate (NTC2) or National Certificate Vocational Level 3 (NCV3) in Electrical Engineering. 

A valid motor vehicle driver’s license (Code B or EC1), a Professional Driving Permit (PrDP), and a valid First Aid Certificate are required. Candidates must have five years of post-apprenticeship experience in the electricity supply and distribution industry. 

Authorization to operate on Medium Voltage Systems up to 11kV in terms of eThekwini Electricity Systems Operating Regulations is also essential or must be achievable within nine months of appointment. 

Applicants will undergo a proficiency test to demonstrate their knowledge of construction, operations, and maintenance of distribution systems.

The municipality offers a competitive annual remuneration package ranging from R218,077.44 to R283,086.84, along with benefits including housing subsidies, leave entitlements, medical aid, a pension fund, and a 13th cheque. 

The role requires a willingness to work shifts, standby, and be subject to relocation or transfers across the Electricity Unit depots or divisions.
