EThekwini Municipal Student Relief Fund: A Lifeline for Aspiring Students in 2025/2026

EThekwini Municipal Student Relief Fund: A Lifeline for Aspiring Students in 2025/2026

EThekwini Municipality is extending an incredible opportunity to South African citizens residing permanently within the eThekwini Municipal area.

The EThekwini Municipal Student Relief Fund is open for applications from individuals planning to begin or continue their first undergraduate studies in public higher education institutions during the 2025 academic year.

This initiative is a testament to eThekwini Municipality's commitment to fostering education and development in the region. The relief fund is aimed at providing financial assistance for full-time study programmes.

However, it is important to note that funding is limited to registration costs and potentially a portion of tuition fees. It does not extend to accommodation, meals, books, transport, or other associated costs.

Eligible applicants are encouraged to take proactive steps in securing their academic future. This includes applying for admission and obtaining acceptance at a public higher education institution.

Students are also advised to explore other financial aid options, as the relief fund may not fully cover the costs of their education. The municipality strongly encourages applications from people with disabilities to promote inclusivity and equal opportunities.

To qualify for this fund, applicants must meet specific requirements. For those who have recently completed their National Senior Certificate (NSC) and are yet to enrol in higher education, a certified copy of their matric certificate is required.

If currently enrolled in higher education, applicants must provide their academic records. Proof of income or unemployment for parents or guardians is mandatory, with a household income threshold of R160,000 per year (or R200,000 if there are two or more students in the same household).

Additional documents, including certified copies of ID, proof of residence, acceptance letters, and financial statements from institutions, are also required.

Applicants must also submit a motivational letter outlining why they should be considered for financial support. This is a crucial component, allowing students to demonstrate their dedication and the impact the relief fund could have on their educational journey.

The eThekwini Municipality remains steadfast in its mission to empower the community by prioritizing education.

Prospective students are encouraged to seize this opportunity and submit their applications promptly. The closing date for applications is 17 January 2025.

For further details or assistance, applicants can contact Prince Mthembu, Wendy Shabalala, or Khusela Majikijela, 031 322 0413 /031 322 3924/031 311 9838 at the eThekwini Municipal Academy.

This initiative marks an important step in bridging financial gaps and enabling deserving students to pursue their academic dreams.

Take this chance to shape your future and contribute to the development of eThekwini through education. Don’t wait—apply today!
