About the Role
The primary responsibility of the Ultra-Heavy Motor Vehicle Driver is to transport goods safely and efficiently while upholding Astral’s rigorous safety and operational standards. From vehicle preparation to load management, this role encompasses a range of critical tasks that ensure seamless delivery and client satisfaction.
Key Responsibilities
As an Ultra-Heavy Motor Vehicle Driver, your role will include:

Operating Ultra-Heavy Vehicles:
Preparing vehicles for trips and operating them with precision and safety, adhering to defensive driving practices. -
Load Management:
Supervising the loading and offloading of goods and ensuring compliance with the National Road Traffic Act. -
Document Handling:
Managing and submitting trip documentation accurately to maintain smooth operations. -
Vehicle Maintenance:
Conducting pre-trip and post-trip inspections, maintaining vehicle cleanliness, and promptly reporting any defects or emergencies. -
Safety Protocols:
Following company standard operating procedures and fostering a safety-first culture within the team. -
Additional Duties:
Completing on-the-job training, maintaining uniform and PPE standards, and working shifts, weekends, or public holidays as required.
What You Need to Succeed
Educational Background:
- Grade 12 / National Certificate.
Licensing and Experience:
- A valid Code EC driver’s licence with PrDP.
- A minimum of 3 years of experience operating ultra-heavy vehicles, including refrigerated trucks and Superlink/Interlink combinations.
- Knowledge of tail lift operations is essential.
Skills and Competencies:
- Proficiency in defensive driving techniques and vehicle maintenance.
- Familiarity with loading/offloading processes and vehicle inspections.
- Strong understanding of cost-effective driving and safety protocols.
Additional Requirements:
- A clean criminal record and a valid medical fitness certificate.
- Reliable transport to and from work.
- Availability to work flexible hours, including weekends and public holidays.
